More dead wildlife

Much to mom's horror, another poor creature has died at our paws. Well, teeth actually.

Here's how it happened. Dad saw a rabbit in the back yard, and decided he didn't want it there, so opened the back door for us to run out and chase it away. Only he didn't count on Sam actually catching it! As soon as he heard a squeal, dad realized his mistake, and said, "Oh S***!" Mom jumped up, and started running outside, but dad beat her to the scene of the crime, and had to force Sam to drop the poor rabbit, who was still screaming! The poor thing tried to run away, but it's back legs weren't working very well. Dad told mom to try and get it to go through the fence so it could get away. Only it was practically dragging it's legs and couldn't make it through the fence.

Mom was yelling at dad (words I can't print here) for being so mean as to let us chase the poor bunny. Dad said he didn't think we would catch it, and thought the bunny would make it through the fence. Oops, guess not. Hellooooooooo!! We're FAST!

The worst part was mom trying to pull open a spot by the gate for the poor thing to get through so it would be out of the yard. But, to her horror, it died. Right in front of her!!!! Then she was even MORE mad, and was in tears when she told dad not to EVER do something like that again! She loves her wildlife, and hates to have them killed. It really bothers her...a lot. She realizes we are all very prey driven, but she certainly doesn't want to encourage it!

Apparently Sam didn't realize the rabbit he eats for dinner, actually comes from a can, and not the back yard.

I have not seen a rabbit. So I don't know if I would chase one or not.

I can catch cats though (when I don't have mistress hanging on the other end of my lead..)

Hi Holly, Tasha here. We've caught a couple of bunnies before. That screaming they do is loud and shrill! I bet your dad will be in trouble for a LOOOONG time over this one. Into the dog house for him! Is your fluffiness coming back? Belly Rubs, Tasha.

Me and Zimmie almost caught one a week ago. Our mom didn't seem pleased. What's the deal?

Ooh no! My Mom would be just as upset as you! I say, if the critters come inside MY fence, then they're free game, though the humans seem to disagree. Go Sammie go!

I have not come close to a rabbit, but I have come close to a dove and mocking bird. Mom reminded me that we do not kill suck animals and that I should think twice about chasing a mocking bird, since they can fight back!!!

Woowoooooo Holly! Who knew Sam had it in him (way to go boy!). Our lady doesn't like us to kill the wildlife either. Several months back, we got a rabbit also & here she came tearing out into our yard just in time to see us rip it in half, we don't know if the bunny screamed or not as we couldn't hear anything over the lady screaming. Needless to say, we were NOT her favorite dogs for a few days! And we're pretty sure she would kill the man if he ever did ANYTHING to encourage our prey drive, specially since there 5 furry cats in our household. Anywoo, we've missed you & we're sending fluff growing thoughts your way!

Private Silver got a rabbit last Thursday morning. Our people weren't happy but we get a few rabbits every year. See our blog about Juarez playing with the ducks while Mom and Lisa were gone.

There was a cat in our bushes when we got home from walking yesterday. We really tried to get it, but Mom was strong on the leashes. Too bad.

Woo, Holly! We saw part of the Crufts dog show on Animal Planet last night. A Malamute won the Working Breed class! He wasn't as pretty as you - but it was nice that a Mal won! I thought of woo.

My papa made that mistake once. We are not retrievers, we do not have soft mouths.

Hey....I've heard that "OH SH**" around my house a few times. That's a coincidence. Moms like cute fuzzy things like bunnies so I know she's be mad too. Although my Mom isn't too fond of the mice that seem to be living in our family room ceiling at the moment. Maybe I'll have to write about them. Dad said something about declaring war. Not sure what he means by that.

Oh, poor bunny! And your poor mom! Sometimes it's hard for our humans to see the predator side of us, especially right in front of them like that.

Mom is ordering me some rabbit from www.haretoday.com, but you can't tell it's rabbit...no hair or head or anything, so it just looks like meat.

Oh dear, we can't imagine what our Mom would do in that position. I think she'd cry a lot cause she's a softy.

You guys must be super duper fast to catch a bunny!

Well, I have to say that your human man is even more distracted than my human man to think that letting huskies out to chase a bunny was a good idea.

Next thing you know, he'll be bringing cats home to play with you... hehehe, cats... tasty :)

Kudos to Sam!
I didn't know bunnies scream, they don't usually get a chance to let out any sounds before I snap their necks. They're my favorite all-natural treat!
Your humans will get over it.
