Sleepy Positions

Aaaahhhhh yes. Sleeping. My second favorite thing to do. Eating, of course, being the first.

Since some of my other friends (Ao4 and Magnum) are sharing their sleepy positions, I too must share mine.

First up - The Doughnut. Notice how I keep my nose nice and warm with my fluffy tail.

Next - Hide Your Face Using A Human. In the picture to the left, my face is stuffed behind dad's knees. On the right, I have my face hidden between my paws which are resting on moms leg (those are her snowflake sleepy pants.)

Third - Hog The Pillow. This means laying your body on as much of the pillow as possible.

Fourth, is one of my favorites (which annoys the humans tremendously) - The All-Out Sprawl. This makes it extremely difficult for anyone else to get on my couch.

And last, but certainly not least, the Air-It-Out, also known as the Upside Down Froggie Doggie.

What the..?!?!?!

Back in March while the Iditarod was going on, dad found this book on E-bay and decided the title was just too interesting to pass up. So, he bought it.






He is now in the process of actually reading it.

What I want to know is.....why on earth would the editor let this guy title his book something like THAT!?!?!?

"Holly" withdrawal

For those of you going through "Holly Withdrawal" because I have been posting so many pictures of the freaky boy, I am happy to give you your "fix" by sharing some new pictures of ME.

I hope this makes you all feel better about not getting to see my beauty for so long.

I love lounging in the doorway, keeping an eye on my yard.

I also love to CHEW. Chewy's are my favorite.

Hhmmmm, what's this over here? Wonder if it's edible?

Aaaahhhhh, all this chewing means I need a good stretch of my front legs and paws.

Well, all that chewing has made me sorta tired. So, I guess the only thing to do is nap. At least my chewy will be safe, here between my paws.

I think I'm in trouble.....

I know what you're all thinking, and NO, it's not ME!

The human man got in trouble. How, you ask? Well..........

A) He did something he wasn't suppose to; and

B) He told the human woman what he did. (big mistake)

On a recent morning run, dad got some really nice pictures of Sam at the park playground.

However, there is something very wrong with one of these pictures. See if you can spot it.....

Notice the lack of a red thing hanging from his neck in the picture on the right???

Yep. Dad took the leash OFF of Sam. At the OPEN, UNFENCED park!!!

Dad said he did it cuz Sam knows dad is the alpha, and that dad is in control. Ummmm, hello!!!! Given the chance I'm pretty sure Sam would run and never look back, regardless of what dad said, or how alpha he thinks he is! (isn't that why I was picked up out of a corn field?)

Mom was NOT happy, (to say the least), and she spent a good amount of time yelling at dad that he was never, ever, ever, to do that again! She said if he wanted to take that chance with HIS dogs, (Kona and Monty) that was his choice, but to never, never, ever, ever, do that with "her" dogs. (that would be Sam, me and Abby) I think the words "kill" and "divorce" were mentioned! Sam is her very special "son" and if anything ever happened to him (or any of us) cuz dad was STUPID and let him off his leash for some pictures (regardless of how good they are) I'm pretty sure dad would be finding a new home without us! We are mom's "children" and loss of us due to intentional stupidity is completely unacceptable. (can I just say DUH!)

Sam thought it was pretty funny that dad "trusted" him not to run away. Here he is laughing hysterically at the whole situation.

Well, the good news is that dad learned a very important lesson and has promised to NEVER let any of us off leash in an open area ever again.

It's a good thing mom loves us enough to get really mad and upset over our potential "loss" that she would stick up for us so much! Too bad ALL humans out there aren't more like her!

The spaz is at it again

Samuel is such a freak. I just don't understand him. Maybe my other Husky friends can tell me if this behavior is normal..........or not.

Ho Hum

Well, it was another one of those boring weekends. We did nothing exciting.

Here I am last night when I was waiting for my dinner. Usually I'm more excited about getting my dinner.

Then today, it was pretty nice outside, in the upper 50's. So I hung out outside most of the day. Our human woman bought us these gigantic cow ears from Doctors Foster & Smith. Boy, do those doctors know what tastes yummy!

Here is a picture of me laying outside on the blanket chewing on one of my cow ears.

Samuel likes to walk around with his and just play keep-away from the rest of us. Personally, I don't think that's very nice. I mean, if he isn't going to eat it, he could give it to me!

Being the smart, food driven girl that I am, I did come across another cow ear, I think it was Monty's, that was dropped when he went to go bark at the people walking by our fence. So here are a couple pictures of me with both cow ears. I can't decide which to chew first, but I do have one secured under my paw, while I chew the other one.

You can really see just how big these ears are from these photo's. Maybe some of my other doggie friends will show these pictures to their humans, and then their humans can buy THEM some of these yummy cow ears! Good luck pups!!!

That was pretty much the extent of excitement for my weekend. But hey, anything edible is always exciting to me!

Where did winter go?

With all the drama and suspense with my friend Kelsey's emergency surgery I forgot to mention that the snow thief took away all my snow, and instead left me with hot weather!! It's only MARCH!

There is something significantly wrong with this! Lets think back a bit, shall we?

Two weeks ago we had our first official blizzard since 1998 and got a foot of snow. See below.



On Tuesday we broke record highs and hit 80 degrees!!! Why is it, we always go straight from cold right to hot and somehow skip Spring all together?

I really need to talk those humans into moving to Minnesota SOONER, rather than LATER!

It's about time

This is something I recently found. I think it is something that ALL of us need.

On another positive note, Kelsey is doing better. His temperature has finally come down to 101.4 degrees, and that is the lowest it has been since last Monday when all this started! He will be given some soft food tomorrow, to see how he does. His first attempt at soft food didn't go too great. He threw most of it up, but some DID make it through. His poor tummy and intestines are just so traumatized, it's no wonder they didn't want to work yet! He is keeping down his potassium bromide (for his seizures) and also all the water he drinks. That means there's no leak in his patchwork, and no sign of fluid in his abdomen. He is still on IV fluids since that is where his antibiotics are given, but hopefully that can be removed tomorrow, if he keeps his food down. The peritonitis was localized around his intestinal patchwork, so that was good since it had not spread throughout his tummy. And, that was even getting better, which was evident by his reduced temp.

So, hour by hour, he is slowly getting better. Tomorrow will be a big day, so keep those paws crossed and those prayers coming. They are really working!!!

New Kelsey Update

Kelsey is doing better, and hanging in there! He is a tough boy! He is still not out of the woods completely, but every hour his temp stays down, and there is no fluid build-up in his tummy, is a good sign.

AND......THANK YOU ALL!!!!! This is such an awesome group of friends, I couldn't ask for more! (well, more food, but that's another story)

A quick update on Kelsey

10:00 a.m.
Kelsey's fever went up last night so the vet had to re-open him. The intestinal tissue was leaking and started to die, so more of it had to be removed.

He is now on his way to see a soft tissue specialist to see if they can help. Otherwise, he might have to make a road trip to Kansas State to see one of their specialists.

Please keep your paws crossed, and those prayers coming. He's really going to need all the help he can get!

I will try to keep you posted as I get information from Kelsey's mom.


2:20 p.m. UPDATE
Kelsey is in surgery. He has peritonitis, which is extremely dangerous and life threatening. The surgeon is going to go in to see if there is anything he can do. If they cannot stop the infection and inflammation and leakage around the intestine, then his chances are not good. Peritonitis can lead to septicemia, which can be deadly. Kelsey's mom is not doing very well, and is very worried for her boy. He went into surgery about 1:00, so hopefully we will have some news soon. I will keep you all updated. PLEASE hope and pray for Kel to pull through this. I know you all understand, so please keep him and his mom, Cody, in your thoughts.

6:40 p.m. UPDATE

Kelsey got out of surgery about 4:30. The peritonitis was localized around the intestine suture area, which is good, meaning it has not spread throughout his entire abdominal area. The vet had to remove another 10 to 12 inches of intestine to try and get to some healthy tissue. He also used a graft to wrap around it to help in the healing and generation of "good" cells to get it to grow together quicker and reduce the inflammation.

At 6 p.m. he was sitting up and looking around. He will be kept at the 24 hour emergency clinic next door, so they can monitor him throughout the night for any elevated temperature and fluid in his abdomen. For now, he is doing good. So keep up those good thoughts and prayers. If all goes well, he should get to go home on Monday. Either I, or Kelsey's mom will keep you all updated. She wanted to say "thank you!!!!" to everyone for all the positive karma coming their way!! It sure helps knowing there are so many humans and doggies out there sending good vibes his way!

Prayers please!!!!

My very good friend Kelsey needs lots of prayers!

He was taken into emergency surgery tonight with an intestinal obstruction. Apparently, back in January when he chewed up his humans purse, some of it got stuck in his tummy. Then, a couple weeks ago he also got a hold of a shoe and ate a little of it. Well, the part that was stuck in his stomach wasn't blocking the intestine all the way, so some food and stuff was getting through. BUT, when he chewed up part of the shoe, a long string got caught on the purse piece, which then started to accordion up his intestines, so he started throwing up and had to go to the doctor.

When the doctor couldn't get him to keep down any food, they made him drink some nasty stuff called barium so they could see how his innards were working. That's when they saw the blockage and had to go in and remove it. They gave all the gunk they removed to his mom in a plastic bag. Hopefully she will post a picture of it, and of Kelsey's stitched up tummy, on his blog. It was pretty nasty looking cuz my human was there at the hospital with Kelsey's human and she said it looked VERY scary!

But, he's not out of the woods yet. I guess part of his intestine was in really bad shape, so they had to cut out about 8 inches of it, and then sew the good parts back together. Now they have to watch him very closely for any infection or leakage. The next 3 days will be critical, so please say all sorts of prayers for our friend Kelsey so he can get well very soon!!!

My human is having a very hard time with this since she just lost Kirby on Monday, and Kelsey was her first rescue/foster dog. She still thinks of herself as his "other" mommy and loves him very much. So all the good doggie and human vibes Kelsey and everyone who loves him can get would be most appreciated. Mom knows how scared she would be if it was one of us in the same position!

Bits and pieces. Stuff and things

My friend Tubey had bits and pieces of himself on his blog. So I thought I would share my bits and pieces.

This is my fluffy tail. The part at the top where the fur is missing is where the humans had to shave my tail because of my hot spots from several weeks ago.

On the left is the spot on my chest.

On the right is my fat belly and the bald spot on my tummy. Another shaved hot spot hold-over. It's still sorta red cuz I'm still licking and scratching it sometimes.

These are my very big paws.

And, of course, my very pretty almond brown eyes.

Here is my cute and fuzzy ear.

I got something in the mail today. I was sooooo excited! Can you see what it is?

Yep, that's my favorite freckle nosed Siberian Husky, DAVE!! Now I can gaze upon his cuteness whenever I want! Wow, I couldn't ask for a better present! Mom got this from one of the rescue groups she likes called MawPaw Siberian Husky Rescue. They have their own store with all sorts of great stuff! Lots of which feature my good griends of the Ao4.

Well, that's about all the bits and pieces, stuff and things that I have for today. Dad got an interesting book in the mail today too, that I will share with you all tomorrow! So stay tuned for more!

A sad goodbye

Today was a very sad day for mom. Her 17 year old kitty Kirby had to go to the Rainbow Bridge.


He had been coughing, and doing the hairball hacking sound, so mom took him to the vet. His xrays showed a large cloudy area in his lungs. Over an ounce of fluid was taken off his lungs, and he was given a steroid injection and some antibiotics as it looked like he might just have a severe case of a staph infection. He perked up a little, and was even eating better. He went back to the vet on Friday for his one week follow-up to re-xray his lungs to see if the infection (shadowed area on the film) had gotten smaller. Unfortunately it hadn't, and 2 more ounces of fluid were taken off his lungs. Mom missed a call later that evening from the vet, but the message didn't sound promising. The vet said she found something in the fluid she extracted and needed to discuss it with mom. Mom had a terrible feeling over the weekend what it was, and continued to watch Kirby get worse. He stopped eating completely, and his breathing was becoming even more labored.

So, this morning mom called the vet first thing, and found out that Kirby had cancer and the large cloudy area in his lungs was actually a tumor. Mom made the painful decision to end Kirby's pain and suffering and send him to be with his brother Alex. She knows Kirby is now in a much happier place where he can be young and happy and curl up to sleep with Alex, once again.

Thank goodness mom has us to help comfort her. It's a really good feeling to know we are there for her to squeeze and hug on when she is sad.

This is the back door showing the foot of snow that piled up. You couldn't even see the step that is usually there. It's just flat out that big drift!

Tomorrow I will try to get the video loaded. Videoegg was giving me fits and wouldn't let me upload my video....grrrrrr! So, hopefull I will have more snow fun for everypuppy (and fufu) to see tomorrow too!! AND, we are suppose to get a little MORE snow tomorrow!! Isn't it wonderful?!?!

AN OFFICIAL BLIZZARD

Well, it's official. We're in a blizzard!! It's our first "official" one since 1998!! The human woman stayed home this morning because she only made it two blocks and decided to turn around and come back home. Which was a very good idea, because the Nebraska State Patrol decided to tell everyone to stay OFF the roads. I-80 west of 126th street all the way to Utica Nebraska is closed. I-29 from South Dakota to Missouri is closed. I-80 east to Des Moines is closed. So, it's a good thing mom decided to stay home! Dad got off work at 6:30 this morning and it took him 2 hours and 15 minutes to make it home and it's only 12 miles!

Mom got some good pictures this morning of us out in the blizzard. Hopefully, we will have more later. We are suppose to get between 10 and 15 inches!! We already have 10 inches and it's only 10:30 in the morning!
