Kona Update

Well, the good news is that he doesn't have anything terrible like mange. The bad news is, it's just hypersensitivity due to his allergies. He is no longer eating anything that is on his food allergy list, which means it has to be environmental. We'll keep giving him the zinc supplements too. Anydog know of any good herbal remidies for hypersensative skin allergies? We need a good supplement to help with this. Mom even bought some biotin supplements since it is suppose to help with skin and hair.

Mom did buy some new laundry soap this week that is hypoallergenic (Arm & Hammer has one) and started to wash all the doggie blankets, and blankets that cover the couches, and bedding to see if that might help a little too. They also have to start giving him baths in a special shampoo (Keratolux). He's gonna love that!

So, it looks like he will be back to the steroids. Only positive thing about that, is he might actually feel like eating again.

I'll keep you all updated as we go along with this. I sure wish it was a more specific diagnosis. Poor guy.

Hi Holly,
Poor Kona - hope he's feeling better soon in spite of the baths! Mommy's Cinny & also Shanna used to get "hot spots" on their skin where they actually lost their hair & undercoat in a sometimes large circle (but not ringworm) all over their body. It was an infection that the vet had to keep them on antibiotics for 10 days at a time.

Poor guy, it's miserable to have skin itchies that bad. When I've gotten hot spots, Hu-mom washes the area with a few drops of tea tree oil in cold water, very soothing, & tee tree oil is a natural antibiotic. I don't even lick it all off. Humom used to use oatmeal powder & soap on her skin kid when he got allergies. that seemed to help too.

wooing healing sibe vibes,
Star & Jack a-roo

PS - turned out my repeated hot spots were because of the straw we were sleeping in, & it was getting damp underneath. dad fixed the leaky roof over our kennel, mom removed the straw, & I got better!

Is Kona grumpy with the itchies? When the Human Assistant feels itchy all over (it's a nerve thing) he gets SOOO grumpy!

And he says I'm crabby! Good luck to Kona!
